Benedikt Achatz was born and grew up in a small and friendly town called Deggendorf in Bavaria, Germany. He graduated from HfG Karlsruhe (University of Art and Design Karlsruhe), studying Product Design under Werner Aisslinger, James Irvine, Bless, Hansjerg Maier-Aichen and Volker Albus. During his studies he gained valuable experience as a Product Designer, while working as a trainee for defacto.design and factor product in Munich. He also moved to Italy and worked for Studio and Partners in Milan. Two years after returning to University and just about to enter the final stretch of his studies, Benedikt took the chance of becoming a trainee at Ingo Maurer and relocated to Munich. In 2009 he graduated from HfG Karlsruhe and founded ACHATZ PRODUCT DESIGN in Munich. In his work Benedikt experiments with the common perception of objects, space and products. By studying aspects of known subjects and combining these with experiences made in other fields like electronics, materials and manufacturing technologies, new products and concepts are developed. Questioning the ways of every day life, being curious, passionate and willing to discover unkown territories are fundamental to Benedikts work approach. His work has been covered around the web, in books and magazines like Frame Magazine, Liberation and The New York Times. |
